Vanessa & Tom's Cape Cod Wedding at The Flying Bridge
A Cape Cod wedding has a way of feeling timeless. The salty air, coastal views, charming harbors, and relaxed summer atmosphere create the perfect backdrop for celebrating love. Vanessa & Tom embraced every bit of that Cape charm, from the seaside chapel where they exchanged vows to arriving at their reception by boat. Every detail felt elegant, intentional, and unmistakably New England.
Getting Ready
The day began in two beautiful Cape Cod locations. While my second photographer, Laney, spent the morning with Tom and his groomsmen at a nearby Airbnb, I joined Vanessa and her bridesmaids at her parents' home.
The house couldn't have been a more fitting place to begin the day. Bright natural light poured through the oversized windows, while subtle coastal décor throughout the home created such a peaceful atmosphere. It felt warm, welcoming, and perfectly reflected the setting for the day ahead.
As hair and makeup wrapped up, I photographed all of the thoughtful details that would tell the story of the day—the invitation suite, rings, heirloom pieces, and finishing touches. Upstairs, Vanessa slipped into her elegant wedding gown with the help of her mother. Her look was effortlessly timeless: a sleek bun, a simple yet stunning gown, and a delicate lace-edged veil that added just the right amount of romance.
Before the bridesmaids saw her, there was one very special first look.
Vanessa's father entered the room with his eyes closed before I said “open!” and he could see his daughter for the first time. The smile that instantly spread across his face said everything. It was one of those quiet moments that needed no words, just a father taking in the sight of his little girl on her wedding day.
Downstairs, the bridesmaids eagerly waited. As Vanessa made her way down the stairs, tears quickly filled the room. It was such a beautiful reminder of how loved she is.
Meanwhile, Laney captured Tom putting on the finishing touches with his groomsmen before stepping outside for a few relaxed portraits together. The guys looked incredibly sharp in their classic black tuxedos, while the bridesmaids would later complement them perfectly in beautiful shades of green.
A Ceremony Rooted in Love & Faith
Vanessa & Tom exchanged vows at the beautiful seaside chapel, St. Thomas in Falmouth. Nestled near the water, the charming church felt like the perfect setting for a Cape Cod wedding.
Their ceremony was heartfelt and deeply rooted in faith, surrounded by family and friends who had gathered to celebrate them. There were plenty of emotional moments, but there were also a few laughs. During his homily, the priest joked about the couple having five children someday, earning laughter from the guests and some wonderfully nervous smiles from the newlyweds themselves.
Following the ceremony, we gathered everyone outside for extended family portraits before heading to our next location for formal photographs.
Rooftop Portraits with an Ocean View
One of the highlights of the day was making our way to the rooftop at The Tides Hotel.
With sweeping views of the harbor behind us, we photographed family portraits, the wedding party, and, of course, some beautiful moments with just Vanessa & Tom. Between the ocean breeze and the incredible coastal backdrop, every image felt effortlessly Cape Cod.
Arriving by Boat
If there was one moment that perfectly summed up this wedding, it was the boat ride to the reception.
The three of us boarded a private white boat flying a "Just Married" flag before cruising across the harbor toward The Flying Bridge. Champagne was popped, glasses were raised, and for a little while, everything slowed down as we floated through the water together.
As we approached the venue, the entire deck was packed with guests waiting for them. Cheers erupted as the boat pulled in while "This Is How We Do It" blasted across the harbor. It was one of the most unforgettable reception entrances I've ever witnessed.
Even the weather seemed to cooperate perfectly. The rain held off through every portrait, every boat ride, and every outdoor moment. Only after Vanessa & Tom made their grand entrance into the reception did a light sprinkle finally begin.
The timing couldn't have been better.
Coastal Cocktails & Beautiful Details
Cocktail hour featured everything you'd hope for at a Cape Cod celebration—a fresh raw bar, incredible hors d'oeuvres, and plenty of time for the couple to actually enjoy visiting with their guests.
The Flying Bridge looked absolutely beautiful. The reception flowed seamlessly between the indoor dining room and the outdoor deck overlooking the water, giving guests gorgeous views throughout the evening.
The floral arrangements were another standout detail. Created by a close family friend of the bride, the flowers were soft, colorful, airy, and perfectly complemented the coastal setting. Every table felt elegant without being overdone.
Dinner, Dancing & Heartfelt Speeches
Before dinner began, Vanessa & Tom shared their first dance together. It was elegant, emotional, and ended with a picture-perfect dip that had everyone cheering.
Vanessa then shared a touching father-daughter dance before Tom and his mother took to the floor. Complete with playful spins and huge smiles, their dance had everyone grinning from beginning to end.
Guests were then seated to a beautifully plated salad while speeches got underway.
Vanessa's father welcomed everyone with words that painted such a wonderful picture of the couple—their love, the respect they have for one another, and the importance of family. The Maid of Honor had the room laughing and applauding throughout her speech, while the Best Man shared heartfelt stories from years of friendship growing up with Tom.
Dinner was every bit as memorable as the setting. Following the salad came bowls of New England chowdah (because around here, that's exactly what it is), followed by an absolutely stunning main course that looked almost too beautiful to eat.
The Dance Floor Came Alive
Once dinner wrapped up, the party officially began.
The dance floor stayed packed as colorful foam glow sticks filled the room and everyone celebrated the night away.
Partway through the evening, Vanessa surprised everyone with a quick outfit change. Out went the elegant gown and four-inch heels, and in came a chic white mini dress paired with comfortable dancing shoes. The crowd absolutely loved it, and she was more than ready to enjoy every minute of the celebration.
Before my team packed up for the evening, I stole the newlyweds away one last time for a few quiet portraits outside. The light had softened beautifully, giving us one final opportunity to capture the two of them together before sending them back to the party.
Those last few moments always end up being some of my favorites.
Congratulations, Vanessa & Tom
Vanessa & Tom, thank you both for trusting us to capture such an unforgettable day. From the emotional first looks and beautiful ceremony to champagne on the harbor and one incredible celebration at The Flying Bridge, every part of your wedding was a joy to document.
A huge thank you also goes out to the incredible team of vendors who made everything come together so seamlessly. Every detail was thoughtfully executed, and it truly showed.
This was one of the most memorable weddings I've had the privilege of photographing, and it's one I'll be thinking about for a long time. We wish you both a lifetime filled with adventure, laughter, and countless summers by the sea together.
